CIVIC/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Growing my civic involvement was one of my personal goals this summer, which my internship definitely helped me accomplish. As Family Connection-Communities in Schools is at the heart of children's issues in Athens-Clarke County, interns have the unique opportunity to connect all of those pieces together and listen to people from every walk of life discuss child welfare, usually on equal footing.
As most of my community has been part of the UGA community instead of the greater Athens community, it is especially wonderful that there are so many partnerships between FC-CIS and UGA, not least this class. |
Tutor for High School StudentsIn HDFS 3700S, I was allowed to serve as a tutor and mentor for high school students in an English class to help them graduate. My specific mentee actually came to a lunch hosted by FC-CIS to spotlight the graduates, and I learned that she will continue her education, something she thanked FC-CIS for giving her the opportunity to do.

Resident AssistantBecoming an RA was where my passion for student affairs began, and this internship has given me many opportunities to grow that passion, including being introduced to the Post Secondary & Career Strategic Action Team, as well as initiatives that affect younger children, like the Freedom School soon coming to Athens.
